Electronic Standard Book Number

Electronic Standard Book Number (ESBN) is the unique identifier of electronic media. ESBNs are recognized worldwide by electronic publishing companies and electronic content providers. ESBNs are simple and quick to generate and serve as branded identifier for individuals or companies acquiring electronic media.

Is this an international standard? I used ISBN for my eBook 'UNleashing the Road Warrior'. This meant that it was included in the archives of the National Library as well as distributed to all book sellers and libraries in New Zealand where I live. It was almost a case of tricking people into trying it and a number of libraries automatically purchased it. Then they asked what they should do with them and they ended up amongst CD ROMS.

I wonder if most organisations who buy books would buy them if they were only recorded under an ESBN.
