I'm hoping that MIT's $100 laptop (or UCB's similar project) will spur a similar commercial device.

Re: What's taking so long?
Tue, November 29, 2005 - 5:54 PMGood point about better for blogs than books.
Surely the ebook, when it arrived, turned out to be the iPod. I know a guy who downloads novels, runs them through a text-to-speech converter to mp3 and listens to them.
More and more discussions are being done as talks or conversations. If BBC radio 4 would just start making more of their drama available as mp3 ... -

Re: What's taking so long?
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 6:52 AMI've been watching the new display technologies, like e-ink and waiting for at least a device with a paper book sized display. I found the tiny displays on PDA's too small, it was annoying because I usually read pretty fast. I found laptops too awkward. I haven't had the opportunity to try out a tablet PC yet.

Re: What's taking so long?
Thu, December 1, 2005 - 8:34 PMYou have a point Phil. I wouldn't want to listen to the mechanical voice of a text 2 speech converter, but I have been considering offering my eList as a MP3 either replacing the text, or as well seeing that I have to create it in the first place.
I do still like reading my eBooks on my iMate as well though. I can read a page here and there while I am waiting for someone, but it would be hard to keep the thread with an MP3 a minute at a time.
